Michigan Clean Slate Legislation Passed 2020

On Behalf of | Aug 5, 2022 | Firm News

Michiganders with a criminal past often face many obstacles including difficulty getting a good job, securing good housing or even continuing their education.  Now, thanks to the Clean Slate legislation, things are going to get better for a lot of people.

Under the Clean Slate, which was signed into law on October 11, 2020, a person convicted of certain crimes will have record of that conviction automatically expunged after seven years for a misdemeanor and 10 years for a felony.

This legislation does not replace the current process to set aside a conviction (i.e. expungement).  The expungement process is still a viable option to clear your record before the time-frame in the Clean Slate.
